Kills Viruses, Dust Mite Eggs, Flea Eggs, Bacteria, and Mold

The New Oreck Halo uses UV-C light to kill many of the germs that could be on your floors - while you vacuum.

It’s one thing to get rid of visible surface dirt, but the new Oreck Halo with its specially designed UV-C light chamber can kill many of the germs, bacteria, mold, dust mite eggs, and flea eggs on your floors – in just a few seconds. And it’s chemical-free.1

Halo UV-C Technology: How it works.

Patented Halo light chamber

The light produced by the patented Oreck Halo light chamber magnifies and concentrates ultraviolet light in the C spectrum. UV-C light is a natural source of light that the sun produces and can be a better alternative to harsh chemicals.

Proven germicidal benefits

UV-C light has long been known for its germicidal benefits, killing many microorganisms by disrupting their cellular DNA. Labaratory studies prove it to be effective at reducing bacteria, germs, and other contaminants on various floor surfaces.

The Oreck Halo can reduce up to 99.9% of bacteria and up to 90% of dust mite eggs on surfaces.

The New Oreck Halo uses the same ultraviolet technology used for decades to purifiy drinking water and help sterilize the air in hospitals. And in laboratory testing, the UV-C light from the Oreck Halo light chamber reduces up to 99.9% of bacteria and up to 90% of dust mites eggs on surfaces.

You can't see these microscopic nuisances in your carpet or on your floors, but when they’re exposed to the patented Halo light chamber, many of them are killed. Best of all, those microbes are then vacuumed up without a trace, thanks to superior Oreck vacuum technology that removes dirt, dust and debris just like all of our trusted vacuums.

Many harmful microorganisms are killed in as little as a second.

Microorganism Seconds of
exposure for
99.99% kill
E.coli 0.33
Hepatitis 0.40
Flu Virus 0.33
Polio Virus 0.33
Anthrax 0.44
Tuberculosis 0.50
Salmonella 0.39
Mold 1.10

Laboratory testing shows that exposure to UV-C light at the power generated by the patented Oreck Halo Light Chamber killed up to 99.9% of E-coli and viruses like the flu in less than one second. Many dust mite and flea eggs that can trigger allergies and asthma are also killed. The Oreck Halo’s UV-C light also kills the superbug MRSA, the antibiotic-resistant bacteria that causes staph infections.

With each back and forth motion of the Oreck Halo, you’ll see up to an 80% reduction in the bacterial load found on carpet.

Frequently asked Questions

  • What is UV-C light?

Ultraviolet light is a natural form of sunlight. Scientists divide UV light into three spectrums: UV-A (what people know as blacklight), UV-B (what is used in tanning salons and can cause sunburns) and UV-C (light that can kill germs which is the light used in the Oreck Halo Technology).
  • Is it safe?

At Oreck, safety is a top priority. The Oreck Halo has several safety mechanisms built into the product to assure that the UV-C technology does not cause harm to your family. First, the Oreck Halo UV-C light will shut off automatically if the product is turned over during use. Second, the Oreck Halo must be in a standard operating mode in order to use the UV-C technology so the light will not come on in the stationary mode. Lastly, the UV-C light will not come on if the attachment door is even slightly open - it’s intuitive enough to know if you are using attachments then you cannot use the UV-C light.
  • Is cleaning with UV-C light eco-friendly?

Cleaning with UV-C light means you don’t need to use harsh or toxic chemicals that are harmful to people and to the environment.
  • Will the glass on the bottom of the unit break while vacuuming?

No, there is an advanced, very durable, special quartz glass on the bottom on the Oreck Halo that allows the Oreck Halo UV-C light technology to pass through, rather than be absorbed. Under normal use, the bulb and chamber are designed to last the life of the vacuum.
  • How long will the ultraviolet bulb last? How do I replace the ultraviolet bulb?

The UV-C bulb is estimated to last the life of the product under normal use and should not need to be replaced. If it does, please contact Oreck directly.

Cleans without Chemicals.

The New Oreck Halo kills the germs that could be on your carpets and floors without the use of chemicals. So it's safe for you, your family, and the environment.

  1. Extent of killing on surfaces depends on exposure time.
  2. Simulation only. Do not attempt to look into Oreck Halo light. See Owner's Manual for safety and other instructions.
  3. Bacterial load is defined as the concentration of bacteria on an object. 53% to 88% reduction in bacterial load was observed in laboratory testing.
